Feb. 22: How To Wrap It Up with REMOTE WALLS – Comfortable & Cozy in Your Super Insulated Home

Are you interested in making your home more comfortable and energy efficient? Are you planning a new construction project or remodeling an existing home? If you answered yes to either of these questions, than you will want to join instructor Margaret Subers for this hands-on workshop that will teach the basics of building super-insulated homes and include building a small-scale REMOTE Wall. You do not need construction experience to attend. Each participant will be encouraged to discuss their individual projects to promote class discussion. The course will outline the basic best practices for a REMOTE wall style structure for new and remodel type projects.   • Introductions from participants, expectations and format of workshop
  • Hands-on small REMOTE wall building example for each group, estimate 2 groups of up to 10 each
  • How to address some common foundation and top plate connections, typical siding options and standard penetrations
  • Specific building/design questions from each of the participants with class discussion
  • Review handouts and pertinent building science information from class and questions

Margaret Subers, Alaska Energy Assessments

Margie_SubersMargaret “Margie” Subers owns Alaska Energy Assessments. Her company provides energy improvement consultations, energy ratings, thermal imaging and indoor air quality analysis for new and built structures across the state of  Alaska.  In addition to her business, Margie worked as Project Manager/Grant Administrator for Alaska Building Science Network where she provided programmatic, project and technical management on Rural Alaska Community Energy Efficiency Projects.  Margie is an Alaska AHFC Certified Energy Rater and a BPI certified Building Analyst. Her previous work as an Energy Specialist for community development projects was in both residential and multi-family units. This position enabled her to travel across the state of Alaska, meeting great people and learning about the vast climatic conditions for built structures in areas ranging from Haines, Tok and Talkeetna. Margie is passionate about creating healthy, energy efficient spaces for people with an aim for Net Zero Energy building.  Margie has been on the board with ACAT and has volunteered with workshops and Bioneers in Alaska.  Margie has completed a super-insulated REMOTE WALL home with plans for a shop.  Her home is built with 8” Foam on the exterior and 2 x 6 insulated walls. In 2001, Margie received the “Manufacturing Firm of The Year Award” by the Arizona Small Business Development Council for her aircraft propeller company. In 1999, Margie founded a licensed, bonded C-37R plumbing company and performed general excavating while working with state inspectors and health departments to improve water quality in  Arizona. In 1988, Margie co-built a solar powered home in Patagonia, Arizona, implementing the latest technology known at that time. Margie’s hobbies include building, flying, cooking, woodworking, horses and star-gazing with her husband Brad.
