Curious how new plug-in technologies could transform the way you power your home and save on your electric and heating bill? Join us for this workshop: Exploring Plug-and-Play Electrification

Across the world, people are adopting a new wave of accessible energy solutions—often called plug-and-play electrification. These include technologies like moveable solar panels, heat pumps, induction stoves, and battery backup systems that can help lower both electricity and heating costs. What makes these systems exciting is they often don’t require an electrician, typically plug directly into a 120-volt outlet and are portable so people can take them if they move or are a renter. In this workshop, we’ll explore how these tools work, their real-world benefits, and how Alaskans could use them to save money and make their homes more resilient.

Dr. Phil Wight, an energy and environmental historian at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, will share his research into the features and benefits of this “plug in revolution.”  In his words: “With the Railbelt already in an energy crisis, these appliances offer tangible ways for consumers to immediately deploy energy solutions which lower bills, increase resiliency, and give Alaskans the power they need to thrive in the Great Land.”
