Last year, Cillian Barrett oversaw the design and building of a 1,000-square-foot, two-bedroom home for Habitat for Humanity in Gunnison, a community nestled in the valleys of the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 7,703 feet. The home features 20-inch wall cavities, a breathable wall system, and heat recovery ventilation heat pump system. This January, in the middle of winter, the house generated a $50 electric bill in a completely electric-powered home. Join us for this two-part series looking at the construction techniques and energy performance of this near Net Zero Energy home built at high altitude in Gunnison, Colorado. On March 17, Barrett will cover the construction techniques he used. On March 24, he will look at energy performance to date.
